“Overkill” The Grinding Wheel CD-Review by Jason Hartsock

You have Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax and then you have Overkill. Overkill released “The Grinding Wheel” on February 10, 2017 through Nuclear Blast Records in Europe and eOne Music in North America. With that being said, let’s take a look at The Grinding Wheel by Overkill.

First thing I would like to comment on is the album cover. The cover itself gives off a pretty metal vibe as such it has large metal objects in it. Why wouldn’t it though? It’s Overkill!
Next, we’ll look at the track list. The new album gives us 10 new Overkill tunes. In order, they are: Mean, Green, Killing Machine, Goddamn Trouble, Our Finest Hour, Shine On, The Long Road, Let’s All Go to Hades, Come Heavy, Red White and Blue, The Wheel, and last but not least, The Grinding Wheel.

The whole album is absolutely phenomenal. Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth has stepped up his game with the vocals compared to the last recent “White Devil Armory”. Guitarists Dave Linsk and Derek Tailer did a fantastic job on lead guitar and rhythm guitar, respectively. The riffs and solos in this album are as metal as they come and then some. The legendary D. D. Verni on bass seemed to have come up with the best bass work on this album compared to the rest in my honest opinion. Ron Lipnicki on drums not only provides the rhythm for whole band but is absolutely face-melting on this album.

Goddamn Trouble, Shine On, and Red White and Blue would have to be a few of my favorites from the album. Goddamn Trouble caught my attention and really pulled me into it. Shine On had some damn good riffs and drum work and the lyrics for that song couldn’t have been any better. Red White and Blue was very heavy to me and that alone wins me over.
Overall, this album is a fantastic ride. I highly recommend it. I love it and so will you. Order your copy of The Grinding Wheel by Overkill today or listen to the full album on Spotify! I rate this release 4.5 out of 5 stars.
