Red Hot Chilli Pipers–15th Anniversary Tour, Hamburg 2018

Location: Markthalle, Hamburg
Date: April 21st, 2018

Rock, Metal, Pop played with bagpipes. Is that possible? Of course. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers from the Scottish metropolis Glasgow prove this impressively. Since their founding in 2002, musicians have toured around the world. Awards such as the Scots Trad Music Award for Best Live Act are the deserved reward. During their jubilee tour to celebrate their 15th anniversary, they also made a stopover in Hamburg. The pictures of the evening are

The interest in pipes and rock is also great in the Hanseatic city. So the Markthalle was very well filled that evening. After the ZZ Top classic “Gimme All Your Lovin” provided the right mood there was pure goose bumps on “Amazing Graze”. Guest vocalist Chris Judge also made his first appearance this evening. And with the German pop song “Auf Uns” (Andreas Bourani) he made an effort to sing in the language of his hosts. With “Thunderstruck” (AC / DC) and “Baba O’Reilly” (The Who) the Chillis presented further rock and metal smash hits.

I found the drums solo or the competition between drummer and percussionist (“Drum Fanfare”) brilliant. But not only there you could experience the fun that the musicians had on stage. With “Highland Cathedral” was also the unofficial Scottish anthem on the program of the evening. Incidentally, this song was composed by two Germans and must not be missing on any Scottish music show. A rock medley marked the end of the program. Stop, not quite. Of course, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers had to play an encore. After the AC / DC cover “Long Way To The Top” the evening ended with the traditional English “Auld Land Syne”.

Here is my coming out, I’m a huge fan of “Drums and Pipes” and have already watched several Scottish music shows (live and on DVD). But what the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have presented that evening, was just awesome. The one and a half hours passed quickly. When the Chillis come back to Hamburg, I’m going back for sure.
