PURE WRATH: Heavy Blog Is Heavy Streams The Forlorn Soldier From Indonesian Atmospheric Black Metal Project; EP Nears Release Via Debemur Morti Productions

“…a heavy and loaded release, carrying emotional weight in the story it tells but also in
how it tells it.” — Heavy Blog Is Heavy

Heavy Blog Is Heavy is currently streaming The Forlorn Soldier, the latest EP from Indonesian atmospheric/symphonic black metal project PURE WRATH, in its entirety. The premiere comes in advance of the EP’s official release on March 6th via Debemur Morti Productions.
Spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Januaryo Hardy, The Forlorn Soldier is darker and more expansive than previous works. An emotive three-track, near-half-hour exploration of events behind a brutal incident during the ’60s genocide in Indonesia where male members of a family were kidnapped and “vanished” by a tyrannical army in the name of “so-called nationalism,” the effort journeys to an all-encompassing realm where mythic dreamscapes meet bloody thematic realism.
Writes Heavy Blog Is Heavy in part, “…it does excellent work in creating a deep and exploration worthy release. If you use it as a springboard to read more about the complex history of Indonesia, it can serve as a window into a country we don’t often write or hear about in the West. But even on its own, using its musical expression alongside its lyrics, The Forlorn Soldier does a fantastic job of conveying the grief that is too often the defining attribute of national histories. On top of all of that, it’s a damn fine piece of black metal.”

PURE WRATH initially began as a primitive black metal solo project in 2014 before Hardy shifted focus a bit “to be more open and realistic to my real life and family history.” In early 2017, PURE WRATH‘s Ascetic Eventide was released via Indonesian label, Hitam Kelam Records. The record received an overwhelmingly positive response and sold out in just four months. Throats Productions in Mexico issued the record on vinyl later that year followed by a split release between PURE WRATH and French symphonic black metal project, Onirism, entitled Endless Journey. By 2018, Hardy unveiled his second full length, Sempiternal Wisdom, via a joint collaboration with Hitam Kelam and China’s Pest Productions. This year’s The Forlorn Soldier EP serves as a thematic bridge from Sempiternal Wisdom to PURE WRATH‘s as-yet-untitled third opus, to be released via Debemur Morti Productions.

“…immersed in a blackened nocturne, PURE WRATH‘s latest digs deeper into some of the thickest and most compelling atmospheres in the business, painting a grim and heartfelt picture of what took place so many decades ago. It’s a sobering look, really, as the The Forlorn Solider EP holds nothing back in terms of intensity and human pain…” – Invisible Oranges

“If you enjoy melodic, atmospheric black metal with a symphonic and blackgaze element, I implore you to check out PURE WRATH without delay.” – Man Of Much Metal

“…an easy record to lose yourself in and a record that seems to consistently drive listeners to deeper levels of introspection.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

“If you are looking for uncompromising powerful, but yet melodic and bleak atmospheric black metal, look no further and get a copy of this awesome release.” – Infernal Masquerade

The Forlorn Soldier succeeds by being at once grandiose and austere.” – Rebel Extravaganza
