“MEANWHILE BACK IN 1969” by Santtu “Rebel” Kaskela
Sometimes just have to remind myself about what the hell has happened during all these years of so called metal music… The other day started to think about my own childhood, what made me listen to the music I listen to today… Realized the effect my dad and his favorites had on me, old “hippie” with his acid, blues, psychedelic, rock etc albums… Here I have chosen some albums, not the only ones that year, but if You ask me the best ones… The year these were released was 1969. If You haven´t heard about them or just haven´t listened to them for a long time… The time is now, enjoy !!
COVEN “Witchcraft destroys minds & reaps souls”… The one and only, the album that first marked the appearance of “Sign of the horns” (later popularized by Mr. Dio) but also “inverted crosses” and the phrase “hail Satan”. https://play.spotify.com/album/60qYJ7btMyDbavVJnUXSoI
CCR “Green River”, “Bayou Country” & “Willy and the Poor Boys”… The ultimate trio making the band known worldwide, leaving their mark in history of rock.
LED ZEPPELIN “Led Zeppelin” & “Led Zeppelin II”… Described as the most influential rock albums of all time, a cornerstones of hard rock and also heavy metal.
THE WHO “Tommy”… The first album (double) in rock history being a so called “rock opera” a story of a kid “Tommy” and his journey throughout the life.
STEPPENWOLF “At Your Birthday Party”… Psychedelic Blues/Hard rock, 3rd album by this band including several well-known hits and their last one to hit the top10 charts.
THE MOODY BLUES “To Our Children’s Children’s Children”… One of Progressive (art) Rock’s grandfathers with their 5th album.
KING CRIMSON “In the Court of Crimson King”… Debut album by this band, considered to be the one of the first and most influential releases in progressive rock genre with it’s elements of rock, jazz, classical and symphonic music.
Of course I have to mention some bands formed that year… If You don´t know them all, the time has come to check their music too…
HAWKWIND… JUDAS PRIEST… THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND… BLACK SABBATH… URIAH HEEP… THIN LIZZY… etc.
Could have been a lot worse year…
