Mitsein ‘I Will Find My Way’

Album Review By Adam McCann

Independent Release/Symphonic Metal

When the words ‘female fronted metal band’ are mentioned, it conjures up images of symphonic or Gothic metal bands where the vocalist leads with a soaring falsetto voice, whilst a male guitarist provides some sort of cliched growl. At the moment, the market is saturated with this sound and challenging to break into it are Brazil’s Mitsein with their release ‘I Will Find My Way’.

There is nothing hugely special about ‘I Will Find My Way’, it does little to break new boundaries within the genre or deliver something unique. However, that does certainly not mean it is poor; in fact, far from it, with this album, Mitsein set their stall out well showing that the band are capable of writing well crafted songs that are memorable and enjoyable to listen to. Therefore, ‘I Will Find…’ would definitely appeal to fans of Evanescence, Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil with songs such as ‘Revenge’ and ‘Scars’. Yet, this album does lack a progressive edge that could drag in fans from Nightwish and Epica. But, the greatest point to this album is its length, clocking in at just over 28 minutes, it is easily digestible without flogging its idea like a dead horse, showing a perfect example of what Mitsein are all about.

Fans of this genre should definitely check ‘I Will Find…’ out; but beyond that, it may leave passing listeners quite cold. However, it does provide a good foundation for the band to build upon.
